Job Title: Production Database Administrator (DBA) – Oracle & SQL Server

Job Overview:

As a Production DBA at Help4Access, you will be responsible for the maintenance, performance, and security of Oracle and SQL Server databases. You will work closely with our development and operations teams to ensure database environments are robust, scalable, and meet the demands of our enterprise clients. Your role will involve proactive monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting to maintain optimal database performance and availability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Database Management: Administer, maintain, and support Oracle and SQL Server databases in production environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
  • Performance Tuning: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, optimize SQL queries, and tune database instances for maximum efficiency.
  • Backup and Recovery: Develop, implement, and manage database backup and recovery strategies to protect against data loss and ensure business continuity.
  • Database Security: Implement and enforce database security policies, including user access controls, encryption, and auditing, to protect sensitive data.
  • Monitoring and Alerts: Set up and manage database monitoring tools to detect and respond to potential issues before they impact production systems.
  • Patch Management: Apply patches and updates to Oracle and SQL Server databases to ensure they are secure and up-to-date.
  • Capacity Planning: Monitor database storage and performance trends to plan and implement capacity upgrades and optimizations.
  • Database Migrations: Assist in database migrations, upgrades, and consolidations, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity during the process.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex database issues, including those related to replication, clustering, and high availability configurations.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, procedures, and recovery plans to ensure operational continuity and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with developers, system administrators, and other IT teams to support application development and deployment activities.

Requirements:

  • Database Administration Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Production DBA managing both Oracle and SQL Server databases in enterprise environments.
  • Oracle Expertise: Strong knowledge of Oracle database architecture, including RAC, Data Guard, ASM, and performance tuning tools like AWR and ASH.
  • SQL Server Expertise: In-depth experience with SQL Server, including knowledge of Always On Availability Groups, replication, SSIS, SSRS, and performance tuning.
  • Backup and Recovery: Proficiency in implementing and managing backup and recovery strategies using RMAN (Oracle) and native SQL Server tools.
  • Security and Compliance: Experience with database security best practices, including user management, encryption, and compliance with industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Scripting Skills: Proficiency in scripting languages such as PL/SQL, T-SQL, PowerShell, and Shell scripting for automation and maintenance tasks.
  • Performance Tuning: Hands-on experience with database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) and Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate are a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cloud Experience: Experience with cloud-based database solutions, such as Oracle Cloud, AWS RDS, or Azure SQL Database.
  • Automation: Experience with database automation tools and frameworks for CI/CD pipelines.
  • High Availability: Familiarity with clustering and high availability solutions for both Oracle and SQL Server.
