Job Title: Senior Microsoft Access Consultant

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Microsoft Access Consultant who excels in both MS Access and SQL Server, with a strong background in account management and adherence to tight change control processes. This role is tailored for an expert with deep industry experience in healthcare, financial services, and manufacturing, capable of developing robust solutions that drive operational efficiency and business success.
What You’ll Do
- Lead Complex Projects: Design, develop, and implement advanced Microsoft Access and SQL Server solutions that cater to the specific needs of clients in healthcare, financial services, and manufacturing industries. Examples include developing an inventory projection application that enabled a major logistics firm to predict deliverable completion and creating a firm-wide event calendaring system using MS Access, Excel, SharePoint, SQL Server, and Citrix.
- Optimize and Enhance: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks by migrating slow-running queries from Microsoft Access to SQL Server stored procedures, significantly reducing report run-times from 20 minutes to under 1 minute. Optimize similar processes to improve application performance across various platforms.
- Data Integration and Automation: Seamlessly integrate MS Access applications with SQL Server backends, ensuring data integrity, performance optimization, and scalability. Develop automated tools, such as a commission module for sales representatives and an automated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) report, that streamline business processes and enhance decision-making.
- Account Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key client stakeholders, ensuring satisfaction with our services and identifying opportunities for additional support. Facilitate meetings to gather business requirements and translate them into actionable technical solutions, as demonstrated in projects involving financial modeling and trading floor operations.
- Change Control Management: Implement and manage rigorous change control procedures, ensuring that all modifications to systems are documented, approved, and tested to meet client and regulatory requirements. Develop role-based security modules to control functionality for internal and external users.
- Consultancy and Best Practices: Provide expert consultancy to clients on best practices for MS Access and SQL Server, helping them leverage these tools to achieve their business objectives. Examples include developing a data-quality-control system that provided dashboard metrics for a major stock trading company and producing complex reporting modules for management-level reporting.
- Industry-Specific Solutions: Apply your deep understanding of the healthcare, financial services, and manufacturing sectors to develop solutions that are not only technically sound but also aligned with industry-specific regulatory requirements and business processes. This includes developing complex PL/SQL packages for retail price databases and managing the migration of trading floor operations to new operating systems.
What You’ll Bring
- Expertise in MS Access and SQL Server: Extensive experience in designing, developing, and managing complex applications in Microsoft Access, coupled with deep expertise in SQL Server administration, optimization, and data management. This includes developing role-based security, optimizing query performance, and integrating various office automation tools.
- Industry Experience: Proven experience in healthcare, financial services, and manufacturing, with a strong understanding of the unique challenges and regulatory requirements in each industry. This includes working on financial modeling for fixed-income securities, managing data quality in stock trading environments, and developing solutions for manufacturing processes.
- Account Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage client accounts, build strong relationships, and deliver high levels of customer satisfaction. This includes gathering business requirements, managing projects, and ensuring the successful implementation of complex solutions.
- Change Control Adherence: Strong background in implementing and managing change control processes, ensuring compliance with both client and regulatory standards. This includes developing tools to track changes, manage user roles, and ensure the integrity of mission-critical applications.
- Technical Acumen: Proficiency in data integration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting within both MS Access and SQL Server environments. This includes developing complex stored procedures, automating reporting functions, and optimizing application performance.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This includes presenting solutions to executive audiences and facilitating discussions between technical teams and business users.
