Microsoft Access Enterprise Migration - Data Governance

Help4Access, a provider of highly affordable, database-driven business applications and services, announced it has built a custom database solution enabling DuPont Industrial Biosciences to effectively manage resources across multiple departments and multiple source systems.

DuPont Industrial Biosciences, headquartered in Palo Alto, California, is a leader in the Biosciences and Pharmaceuticals industries.  Rapid growth in recent years resulting from mergers and acquisitions left DuPont Genencor Science’s product managers with a challenging data management environment.

The rapid influx of resources and technology left the management team with data stored in multiple systems and multiple departments.  This made it difficult to manage projects, effectively allocate resources and perform financial functions such as costing and forecasting.  In order to provide the management team with the tools it needed to be effective, DuPont looked to Help4Access to provide a robust solution that could be implemented quickly.

“This type of data management initiative can be very challenging for any company, even one as large as DuPont.” said Sasha Froyland, Help4Access Founder and CEO. “The traditional approach could have been to undertake a large-scale conversion and consolidation project to bring all the departments and data sources together into a single application or platform.  But that kind of project not only requires a great deal of time and money, it may erect barriers for companies like DuPont that can achieve significant growth through acquisition.”

Froyland continued: “As the fastest prototyping tool in the world, Microsoft Access was the perfect fit to provide the functionality DuPont needed rapidly and at a fraction of the price of a traditionally developed software solution.”

Help4Access’s engineering team quickly turned the high-level business requirements from DuPont into a high quality, custom-built data management application.  The project team leveraged Microsoft Access’ rapid application development interface and ability to connect to any ODBC data source to create the custom solution DuPont needed to increase management effectiveness and continue growing through acquisition.  The team designed an easy-to-use solution for managing the DuPont Industrial Science’s product development projects, resource allocation, costing and forecasting.

With this new solution in place, the DuPont management team was able to more fully utilize its resources and enhance their capabilities to accommodate multiple currencies, changing fiscal years, and integrate with IBM’s Rational Focal Point project management tool.

“DuPont Industrial Sciences is focused on finding innovative solutions to some of the world’s greatest challenges and we are pleased to be able to deliver a custom solution that frees up time and energy on the back-end, enabling them to focus on that search.” says Froyland.
